Hi

I Teach. I Write. I Listen.

My name is Matthew and I’m both an educator and a writer committed to helping students find their voice through the written word. I believe, as Margaret Atwood once wrote, that “In the end, we’ll all become stories.” I see writing instruction as a way to help students understand the power of language—to make sense of their lives, engage with the world, and express something meaningful and lasting.

My path has included work as a high school English teacher and a criminal defense trial attorney. While distinct on the surface, these roles share a common thread: a deep investment in communication, growth, and the pursuit of clarity and truth. Whether in the courtroom or the classroom, I’ve seen firsthand how language can illuminate, persuade, and transform.

This portfolio showcases a selection of my academic, creative, and instructional work. As you browse, I hope you’ll see not only the range of my writing but also the values that guide me as an educator—curiosity, empathy, and the belief that every student has a story worth telling.
